Gomo Ladang is the name of the house built in 1996 for the young 23rd Gomo Tulku. In addition to being his home, it has also served as a refuge for many monks and laymen fleeing Phenpo, the region of Tibet where the previous incarnation of Gomo Tulku lived and taught, and where he was revered as one of the main lamas of the Gelug tradition.
It is located in the vicinity of the Sera Jey monastic complex, in Bylakuppe, in the Karnataka region of southern India. It currently houses five monks and has also become a landmark for the people of Phenpo (the land of the eight great Kadampa geshes), who live in the Tibetan settlements in Bylakuppe.
At the request of Lama Zopa Rinpoche, a disciple of the 22nd Gomo Tulku, Institute Lama Tsong Khapa took the initiative to build Gomo Ladang with the generosity of the disciples of the previous Gomo Tulku.
Since 1996, the year of its construction, no major renovations have ever been made but repairs and structural changes are currently required to improve housing conditions and to create more space.
Beneficiaries of this project will be the resident monks, and newly arriving monks of Phenpo and other Himalayan regions who wish to come to learn, study, and practice the Dharma.
The expansion of Gomo Ladang includes the construction of new rooms to accommodate another 10-13 monks, including 5-8 young novice monks, a new prayer room, study spaces, a library, kitchen, dining room, warehouse and services, as well as the purchase of furniture, furnishings, and a new generator.
The monks will also be provided with textbooks, school supplies, laptops, and other necessities.
